On the morning of March 20, the commencement ceremony of infrastructure connection projects in Yichang-Jingzhou-Jingmen-Enshi City Cluster & Dangyang-Zhijiang-Songzi Highway was held in Zhijiang. 35 infrastructure connection projects were commenced with a total investment of 27.3 billion yuan, including 5 projects in Jingzhou with a total investment of 5.68 billion yuan.

As one of the commenced projects, Dangyang-Zhijiang-Songzi Highway has a full length of 75.042 kilometers, a designed speed of 120km/h, an estimated investment of 16.576 billion yuan and a construction period of 48 months. The Songzi section of the highway has a full length of 22 kilometers and a total investment of 3.8 billion yuan. The line starts from Shanghai-Chengdu Highway (G42) at Huanglin Village, Dangyang, stretches south across the towns of Lianghe and Banyue before intersecting with Shanghai-Chongqing Highway (G50) at Wen'an Town, underpasses Wuhan-Yichang Railway Bridge at Jinhu Village, Zhijiang, and spans the Yangtze River at Tengjiahe Village after passing Xiannyu Boulevard, G318 and Yanjiang Boulevard. The line stretches southeast across the Songzi River, the county road from Xinjiangkou to the old town of Songzi and S254 before meeting Yichang-Yueyang Highway (S88), and leads to Yidu.

The project has been included in the "Fourteenth Five-Year" Plan of Hubei Province for the Development of Integrated Transportation, the "Fourteenth Five-Year" Plan of Hubei Province for Highway Development and the Plan of Hubei Province for the Construction of Key Provincial Projects in 2022 released by the Hubei Provincial Development and Reform Commission. The project is of great significance to promoting the integrated development of Jingzhou and Yichang, connecting Jianghan Plain and Dongting Lake Plain on the west, linking the island on the Yangtze River to the outside, facilitating cooperation between four counties (cities): Songzi, Dangyang, Zhijiang, Yidu, helping them upgrade to the country's top 100 counties, and accelerating the development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt.
